On Thursday, May 3, 2018, we attended the City Kids’ Do More 24 Launch Party hosted at Arc’teryx (1099 H St NW).

City Kids Wilderness Project

Since 1996, City Kids Wilderness Project has been serving youth from DC. Founder, Randy Luskey, started City Kids as an experiential program to teach children how to be prepared for life beyond learning possible in a traditional classroom. City Kids provides DC youth with life changing opportunities to help them learn, grow, and build the skills they need to set goals and work towards their dreams.

City Kids currently operates school year and summer programs for 140 DC youth, enrolling new youth in the sixth grade and providing program support through middle school and high school.

Food & Drinks

We drank FREE beer and wine from Atlas Brew WorksScheid Family Vineyards, and Pareto’s Estate. The food was a spread of meats, cheese, chips & dip, and fresh fruit.

If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll see this is vastly different from the galas and receptions that we usually attend. However, the simple fare is actually a good thing!

HERE’S WHY:
City Kids is a non-profit. Less money spent at the launch party means more funds to help the kids!

Experience

The launch party was held at Arc’teryx, located in the large City Center complex.

Upon arrival, we checked in and received a scavenger hunt card for the raffle for Arc’teryx gear. We learned that City Kids provides after-school homework help 4 out of 5 days a week. They offer a summer camp for children on a rustic 62-acre ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Since founding, City Kids in DC has worked with over 400 children.

In doing the scavenger hunt, we befriended people from the DC Area Climbing Community, who invited us out rock climbing!
